The İzmir International Short Film Festival Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary
The submission period for the İzmir International Short Film Festival, which will take place from 11 to 17 November this year, has come to an end. A total of 4,225 films from 110 different countries applied to compete for the Golden Cat Awards. Organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, the General Directorate of Cinema, İzmir Chamber of Commerce, Konak Municipality, Karşıyaka Municipality, the French Cultural Center, and the German Cultural Center, the İzmir International Short Film Festival will meet film lovers in İzmir for the 25th time this year.
İzmir Film Lab Applications Are Now Open
Applications are now open for the 4th edition of İzmir Film Lab, which will be held this year as part of the İzmir International Short Film Festival. In the fiction category, national projects and İzmir-based projects will be evaluated in separate sections. İzmir Film Lab will once again support emerging filmmakers through professional training sessions and industry-focused activities.Since its launch, İzmir Film Lab has also organized events on sustainable film production. This year, it will continue to raise awareness about sustainable filmmaking by providing short filmmakers with information and practical insights on green film production.The application deadline is 27 September 2024.
İzmir’s Quarter-Century Tradition of Cinema
The İzmir Short Film Festival is preparing to meet film lovers for the 25th time this year. As Turkey’s longest-running uninterrupted short film festival, it will once again reach audiences not only in İzmir but across the country through its programme, online screenings, and events.
The İzmir Short Film Festival is among the 162 international festivals recognized under the criteria set by the Academy Awards, allowing award-winning films in eligible categories to apply for consideration for the Oscars. This year in particular, the festival continues to support the international circulation of short films from Turkey through its growing international collaborations. Promotional activities and partnerships were carried out this year with the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in Germany and the In The Palace International Short Film Festival in Bulgaria.
